Director of Drama
BA (RADA), MA (Warwick)
What is your role at Culford?
I am Director of Drama.
What did you do before you came to Culford?
Before I came to Culford I was Head of Drama at Sibford School in Oxfordshire and also Assistant Head (Pastoral) for KS3.
What is your favourite piece of music, novel or artist?
I love Puccini arias, Chopin and all manner of non-secular music. My favourite authors are Ian McEwan, Julian Barnes, Emily Bronte, Jonathan Franzen and Kazuo Ishiguro.
What is the best thing about working at Culford?
The enthusiasm and responsiveness of the pupils; the tranquillity – I particularly like arriving really early in the morning when all you can hear are the crows; and another highlight is Peter Burge’s piano playing in Collective Worship – virtuosic playing of Rachmaninov or Debussy for instance – a real treat!
What are your interests outside school?
Theatre, of course – I try to go to as wide a range as possible and probably see around thirty productions a year. I also love ballet and contemporary dance. I thoroughly enjoy spending time at our French house in the Charente and have a very keen interest in history, particularly medieval and Elizabethan so spend spare time researching, learning and visiting historic houses.
