Prof. Stephen Challacombe
Stephen is an Old Culfordian and joined the Board of Governors in late 2013. From Culford he went on to have a career in academic dentistry in the field of Oral Medicine at Guys Hospital London and King’s College London. He has recently stepped down from his roles as Dean for KCL External Affairs and as vice-Dean for the Dental Institute. He is a member of The Kings Centre for Global Health working particularly with Sierra Leone and is involved in clinical research in oral HIV and AIDS. He has published widely on mucosal immunology, oral medicine and food allergy.
Stephen has held many national and international leadership roles and has been President of both the British and International Associations for Oral and Dental Research and of both the British and European Associations of Oral Medicine.
His time at Culford consolidated a great love of sports and he played Rugby (for 18 seasons) and water polo at Guys, as well as cricket, squash and tennis. He has been President of GHRFC, which is the World’s oldest rugby club, founded in 1843. He is married to Tina (a family GP), also from Suffolk, and they have two children.
