Culford Wins on Penalty Flicks

Culford Wins on Penalty Flicks

MVP: Guy Salisbury (U2)

The U13's started their season with a national cup match against RGS High Wycombe. Culford started strong with a quick goal by Harry Wakefield (L3) after a very clever assist by the youngest player on the team; Guy Salisbury (U2). It was a very close match throughout, a momentary lapse in concentration gave RGS the opportunity to score 2 goals before half time giving them a 1 point lead.

Going in to the second half, the boys were ready to take back the lead. Quickly scoring 2 goals, the team took the lead for the second time. Some great defending by Matthew Beardmore (U3) and Henry Derbyshire (L3) kept Culford in the lead right up until 5 minutes before the end when RGS scored to equalize the match 3-3.

The match needed a winner as only one team was allowed to progress to the 2nd round of the competition; Culford had to prepare themselves for penalty flicks.

Dean Hafermann (U3), Matthew Beardmore (U3) and Guy Salisbury (U2) all stepped up to take one for the team and did so with great composure to score 2 out of 3. With tension rising Gleb Pisarev (U3) managed to save the deciding flick to get Culford into the 2nd round of the national cup.
