Assistant Head (Pastoral) & Senior Housemaster, Cornwallis
What is your role at Culford?
I am the Senior Housemaster, Housemaster of Cornwallis and a teacher of Mathematics. I also coach the 1st XV rugby team.
What did you do before you came to Culford?
Having studied at Loughborough (Civil Engineering) and Cambridge University (Computer Science and PGCE) I entered teaching relatively late at the age of 29. My first post was alongside Mr Watkin at The Bishop's Stortford High School for Boys, which was followed by seven years at St George’s, Harpenden, five of which were as Head of House being responsible for the pastoral care of 250 boys and girls.
What is your favourite piece of music, novel or artist?
My favourite music is is a number by Crowded House called Always take the weather, although my first ‘long playing’ record was by Showaddywaddy, rather embarrassingly! I really enjoyed the book Bounce by Matthew Syed which explores the nature-nurture argument from a sporting perspective.
What is the best thing about working at Culford?
The pupils of course - they are a delight. The park - peace and tranquility only ever a few strides away.
What are your interests outside School?
My interests include rugby, football, exercise and caravanning. The last one is the one that provokes most conversation and very simply it allows good quality family time away from the modern temptations of TVs and computers. It also helps one to remember just what a beautiful country England is and what delights it has to offer.
