Director of Music
Mus.B (Manchester), LTCL, ALCM
What is your role at Culford?
I teach music and conduct a variety of ensembles in the Senior School and oversee the musical provision throughout the whole school.
What did you do before you came to Culford?
I was Director of Music at Moira House Girls School in Eastbourne.
What is your favourite piece of music, novel or artist?
Musical passions include the piano music of Chopin (particularly the Op. 10 and Op. 25 Etudes), Rachmaninoff, Debussy, Messiaen and Prokofiev, also Shostakovich, Tippett and Ligeti. Obviously all the ‘greats’ get a look in – the three Bs and two Ms. More eclectic interests include Cuban Jazz (particularly Chuco Valdes and Irakere), I’m a big George Michael fan (right from the Wham days!). I have also been known to play keys in the legendary Lynyrd Skynyrd rock anthem ‘Free Bird’! In the past I have enjoyed wading through some of the heftier tomes by Dostoevsky and Tolstoy, but nowadays I am happier reading the latest Ian McEwan.
What is the best thing about working at Culford?
The welcoming and friendly community of students, staff, parents and the many OCs that are always popping in and out and of course, the stunning surroundings.
What are your interests outside School?
Walking the dog (another black lab) – occasional games of tennis and golf – and more music!
