Culford’s academic scholars are privileged both in their status within the school and because of the financial awards they receive. They also benefit from the excellent annual Scholars’ Programme, which all scholars are required to attend.
This programme brings outstanding academics and fascinating speakers to Culford to speak on their topic of specialism and also includes tutorials and workshops designed to inspire our most able pupils to achieve their full academic potential.
To capture a wide range of interesting topics, the programme of speakers revolves around a central theme. From September 2016 to July 2017 the theme is "Art and...", and the guest speakers will explore Art's relevance to a variety of areas including history, politics, science and film. Speakers include the Deputy Head, Dr Laura Slater from the University of York and Chief Executive of Film London and the British Film Commission, Adrian Wootton.
Beneficial for Scholars
The Scholars’ Programme effectively supplements scholars’ normal academic studies and takes on a variety
of forms; from guest speakers to regular Oxbridge-style tutorials, debates and holiday reading. It is excellent preparation for the mixture of independent learning and tutorials that students will find at university.
However, students do not need to be scholars to attend a seminar. All are welcome and occasionally parents are invited to also attend seminars with speakers who in the past have included George Alagiah and Ann Widdecombe.
